![]() ![]() Additionally, the reader's choices in emphasis came off as really forced and was off-putting. It felt like the writer was just trying to finish the book by the deadline after leaving it to the last minute. It was a really big let-down, to be honest. Not to mention the blatant use of deus ex machina to finish the final battle. I knew who was going to die chapters before they did, I knew who the Big Bad was before I was halfway through this book, and was generally underwhelmed with the "look at me, I'm so sneaky and throwing a curveball and here is where it will go and you'll never see it coming in 3, 2, 1, now!" style of writing (and narration, to be frank) that I found myself listening out of passive habit more than interest. I am not one to know what is going to happen or "who done it", if you will, but I found the writing to be so blatantly obvious in its setup for "big reveals" that I was frustrated in the main character for being so dim-witted. I have to say, I'm really disappointed in how it played out. ![]() ![]() I thought the concept was really cool, so I listened to all three.
